Preamp
My
Impressions:
Very quiet.... very clean and clear sounding. It's a
100% solid state design. As you can see from the picture,
it's a simple design. Not much there to muck up your
sound. Very good amplification. Lots of gain!... it can
get pretty loud.
Puts
my ART DPS preamp to shame... I like this MXP preamp!
UPDATE:
New MXP preamp with transformers
I
found some MXP preamps that are different from the above
model. This new one that I found uses mic input transformers
from the company Jensen-Transformers (www.jensen-transformers.com)
Here are some pictures!
The
transformer can above.... Model # is JE-115K-E. This
particular model I believe is now replaced with the JT-115K-E
model on their website.
You
won't believe this! But this particular model of the
Sony MXP preamp is using a Texas Instrument NE5534 dual
opamp.
So
let's see... a common NE5534 opamp, and a Jensen Transformer,
this thing will be easy to clone!!!! When I get some
time, I'll try to sketch/trace the schematic using the
PCB layout.
A
whole body closeup of the preamp module. Very simple
isn't it?
This
is the other MXP preamp I have. Notice the difference.
This particular model does not use any transformers and
uses a proprietary discrete opamp circuit.
My
three amigo preamps! (2) Transformer type, and (1) discrete
opamp type.
