Preamp
Got
myself some Mic preamp module (from eBay) originally
for a Sony MXP3000 console. For more information
about the Sony MXP-3000 Mic Preamp, click here. http://www.wesdooley.com/z-p/Sony_MXP3000.html
I'll
be racking this mic preamp (and EQ module), adding power
supply and XLR connectors.
Gain
is 15 to 35db in the LOW setting, and 30 to 65dB in the
high, plus 48V phantom power.
In
action, along with his buddies.... The EQ module
is right below the mic preamp module.
TESTING:
My problem now is how can I test this mic preamp
if it's working or DOA? The seller didn't know
much about these things, so I'm left on my own.
I
found a drop-in replacement preamp module for the MXP-3000
console (thanks Google!) made by the John
Hardy Company.
Upon
closer inspection of the above drawing, I see that the
pin-outs are labeled. If the John Hardy MPC-3000 is a
drop-in replacement, then my MXP-3036 preamp should follow
the same pin-out assignment.
So
I soldered wires to the pin connectors, added XLR inputs
and outputs, and used my bench power supply to supply
+18-0-18V. Hooked it up to my studio patchbay, and it
passed audio!
Yipee,
it works!!! This could be the best $35 I've spent.
