Inside the KRK RP8 |
Home > Studio Recording DIY Projects> KRK RP8 Electronics KRK RP8 Autopsy The transformer powering the RP8 is huge! That's a good sign. It needs to be able to supply a lot of current to power the amplifier chips. It has 2 (110V) primary windings and (2) secondar windings with center-tap. For 110V operation, I would think the 2 primary windinds are connected in parallel, and for 220V operation, the 2 primary windings are connected in series.
The (2) secondary windings are 27-0-27 VAC and 15.3-0-15.3 VAC. The 27-0-27 windings are to power the amplifier chips, and the 15-0-15 windings are for powering the opamp chips (in the active filter board).
There are also capacitors connected to the AC lines to shunt AC line noise. These are rated 0.1uf/275 VAC.
The whole system is grounded to the aluminum back plate with a screw terminal. This is the screw nearest the IEC connector.
